Earthquake Relief work

A massive earthquake, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, struck close to Muzaffarabad, capital of Azad Kashmir on the morning of 8th October 2005. The earthquake caused mass devastation with great loss of life and property. Other areas including Balakot, Rawalakot, Bagh, the Jehlum Valley and Neelum Valley were also severly affected. Across the LOC, Baramulla, Uri and Tangdar were hit by the earthquake. The 7.6-magnitude quake and its aftershocks rippled across the region triggering landslides, flattening villages and toppling buildings.

Mercy Universal has managed to  provide a great deal of support to the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The number of dead and wounded has gone up as the reports of casualties have started pouring in from areas which remained cut off after the quake. The death toll is likely to go up further as fate of several hundred inhabitants of a number of inaccessible villages is still unknown and there is fearing that a second wave of deaths may occur among the untended injured and the hundreds of thousands of survivors who are at risk of the bitter Himalayan winter.
