More than 500 poor students have benefited from Mercy Universal's education programme

Income Generation Scheme

Under this scheme, a Grant-in-Aid is given by Mercy Universal for milch cows/buffalos. Mercy Universal workers help in procuring and delivering milch cows/buffalos to widows and affected families, and in some deserving cases assist in the building of cattle sheds.

The income from the sale of milk is utilised by widows to support themselves and their children. The progress of the programme is monitored by Mercy Universal workers, who also if needed, provide sale outlets for milk and can also provide advice to make the venture a success.

So far nearly 500 widows and their families are benefiting from Mercy Universal Grant-in-Aid programme. Mercy Universal urgently needs funds for this project to provide benefit to around 300 families

Vocational Training Centres

Young widows and unmarried girls of affected families are given free training in such subjects as tailoring, embroidery, and related skills. On completion of their training, they can easily become self-sufficient and earn a living.

Mercy Universal has set up 60 Vocational Training Centres with an average of 18 trainees each. The training is provided by qualified lady teachers. Mercy Universal bears all the expenses relating to training material, teachers salaries, rent of buildings etc.

Trainees are provided allowances according to their financial needs. After completion of training, they are given machines and accessories to start their own businesses in the fields in which they have qualified. Mercy Universal also provides sale outlets for finished goods produced by these businesses within Kashmir.

Mercy Universal has set up 60 Vocational Training Centres with an average of 18 trainees each.

Trainees are encouraged to interact with fellow trainees. Such interaction helps them greatly in keeping a healthy mental state and minimises the agony and pain they and their families have suffered during the war.

Twelve hundred (1200) young widows and unmarried girls from affected families have successfully completed the training and will now be able to stand on their own.

As the next group of trainers are preparing to join in, Mercy Universal needs donations to run the operations as well as to provide them assistance and the necessary equipment.
