The ongoing strife in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the deterioration of every facility geared to the welfare of the people. Most affected is medical welfare. In many areas of the State, even the basic medical care is practically non-existent. The Jammu province is the worst affected, and the province's meagre medical facility is not capable of meeting the needs of the strife-stricken people. Mercy Universal has therefore begun its programme of making medical welfare available to as large a number of affected and poor people as possible. It has initially opened a Mercy Medical Centre at Doda and then a second Mercy Medical Centre at Rajouri.
Though representing a small beginning, the two centres (manned by qualified doctors and supported by para-medical staff), are providing free medical care to the affected and poor families in the province. This has saved many precious lives apart from attending to the peoples' urgent medical needs. The Doda centre also operates mobile camps reaching out to patients in its catchment area. Doda centre and its mobile camps have so far provided treatment to more than 3,000 sick people.
