No international humanitarian organisation, including the Crescent and Red Cross, is working inside Kashmir. There have been instances, however, when some of these organisations have tried to go into Kashmir but were prevented. With other world events taking up the majority of news coverage, the plight in Kashmir is tragically overlooked.

Although many international charitable organisations have set up offices in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan, Mercy Universal is the only humanitarian organisation that works consistently in Jammu and Kashmir.

Distribution of relief in Kashmir is a difficult operation. The recipient and distributor of relief both face grave risks. Compiling comprehensive reports of distributed relief is an uphill task for relief workers.

Despite this, the data collected by Mercy Universal on the affected people of Kashmir has enabled us to establish a network of distribution and humanitarian assistance points at district, sub-district and village levels. Mercy Universal maintains proper records and reports of all its relief work.
